Fernando Nocco was born in Lecce, Italy, in 1965 and grew up in several areas in Italy between the Alps and the sea of Salento, where his love for nature turned into a passion for photography. In the eighties he studied photography at the IED in Rome, where he developed his skills with large format cameras. He was the assistant of the portrait photographer Giovanni Canitano in Rome, and later he established his own photographic studio in L’Aquila, dedicating his work mainly to architecture and interior design.
After a long period of working as a professional freelance photographer in Italy, Fernando followed his fascination for the northern European lights, bringing him first to settle in Amsterdam (1997). He then became especially fascinated by Iceland and captured the beauty of her nature and strong contrasts (2001-2007). There he became aware of the fragility of wild nature in the hands of human beings. For Fernando, his experiences in Iceland catalyzed into a strong consciousness about water issues.

Fernando Nocco nasce a Lecce nel 1965; cresce a contatto con la natura incontaminata delle montagne nella Valle Stura in Piemonte e del mare cristallino nel natio Salento. Presto a questo amore per la natura si affianca anche quello per la fotografia e l'unione tra i due si trasforma nella sua passione di vita.
Negli anni '80 studia Fotografia presso lo IED di Roma dove apprende e sviluppa l'uso del grande formato. Sempre a Roma lavora come assistente del fotografo ritrattista Giovanni Canitano. Successivamente si trasferisce a L'Aquila per aprire uno studio fotografico nel quale le sue osservazioni si rivolgono principalmente all'architettura ed all'arredamento d'interni.
Dopo una lunga esperienza in Italia come fotografo professionista, Fernando decide di seguire il fascino della luce del Nord e si stabilisce ad Amsterdam (1997), da qui estende ancora oltre il suo interesse verso altri paesi del Nord Europa. Rimane particolarmente affascinato dall'Islanda dove si reca più volte (2001-2007), ne fotografa la magnificenza dei forti contrasti e ne scopre anche la fragilità nel momento in cui su tale incredibile bellezza si posa la mano dell'uomo. L'esperienza islandese ha fatto maturare così in Fernando una forte presa di coscienza sulle problematiche connesse all'utilizzo dell'acqua nel nostro tempo.
